Contact lens materials and designs have changed significantly over the years. Conventional lenses of the past have been replaced by monthly disposable, 2-week disposable and daily disposable lenses. Astigmatic (“Toric”) lenses make it possible for patients with most types of astigmatism to wear soft contacts. Prebsyopia — the need for age-related vision correction affecting most people over the age of 40 — can also be successfully corrected with newer lens designs of multifocal contact lenses.
During a contact lens examination and contact lens fitting, the Doctor and Licensed Dispensing Optician will take necessary measurements and assess whether you are a good candidate for contact lens wear. Astigmatism, dry eyes, allergies, and lifestyle issues will all be important factors of discussion. Upon completion of your fitting you will receive your contact lens prescription; per Washington State Law your prescription is valid for one to two years.
* Contact lenses are medical devices that need to be regularly evaluated to avoid potentially dangerous complications.
* Never sleep, shower, or swim with your lenses on.
* Always wash your hands thoroughly before handling contact lenses.
* Avoid aerosol sprays, like hairspray, perfume or cleaners while wearing your lenses, as they may contaminate the lenses, causing irritation.
* If your eyes become red, irritated, or uncomfortable, remove the lens and clean it thoroughly, rinse and reinsert.
* If irritation, eye pain, sensitivity to light, redness, excessive tearing or discharge is present, discontinue lens wear and seek urgent medical care.
* Follow your wearing schedule as prescribed. Do not over-wear your contacts in any given day or beyond their replacement date.
* Use only solutions and eye drop recommended for your lenses.
Some of the most commonly fit lenses in our practice are: BAUSCH & LOMB PureVision, CIBA Air Optix & CIBA Dailies, COOPERVISION Biofinity, ACUVUE Oasys & Acuvue Moist 1-Day
